American Boycott of LOTR!!!!
Over at TORN
there is a post about American Cinema chains boycotting Fellowship of
the Ring as a result of changes in distribution contracts for theatres.
At this stage there is no problem with Australian Cinemas. Follow this link
to Cinescape.com
to check out the article. [here]
Australians – Refined Elves?
If you have Foxtel and the Showtime channel
then you may of seen or may yet have a chance to see their spot on Cannes.
Just before the 8:30 pm move each night there is a small spot for movie
news and this week it is on Cannes and LOTR. Nothing new here to the
devoted fan but PJ does make a joke about his choice of Australian actors
as the Elves. Personally it is hard to see an elf standing around with a
beer in his hand watching the footy!
6 Months to go until FOTR!
As of June 26th there is officially
six months to go until FOTR release in Australia!
New Line Cinema – Dark Patch
of Marketing
Straight from the horses mouth. The plan is to
lay low for a while so as to not fall into the trap of over-promoting the
films. Smart move? We should not see anything major at all until at least September
according to New Line Cinema management.
The Ring! On the wrong finger?
~SPOILERS~ (only if you havn’t read the books)
Over at TORN there
is discussion ensuing about what finger the Ring is on. This passage is from Return of the King after the climax at
Mt. Doom clearly stating the finger the Ring was on:
"He stretched and drew a deep breath. 'Why, what a
dream I've had!' he muttered. 'I am glad to wake!' He sat up and then he
saw that Frodo was lying beside him, and slept peacefully, one hand behind
his head, and the other resting upon the coverlet. It was the right hand,
and the third finger was missing."
However you can see clearly that Frodo puts it on the index finger
of the left hand in the trailer. This passage is from The Fellowship of
the Ring which clearly shows the trailer is right:
"He shut his eyes and struggled
for a while; but resistance became unbearable, and at last
he slowly drew
out the chain, and slipped the Ring on the forefinger of his left
hand."
So PJ got it right, Frodo obviously places the Ring on
different fingers throughout the books. Follow this link to read all the
discussions and see the evidence. [here]
We must settle for Dec 26th
for now!
The Australian Distributors Roadshow have
confirmed the release date down under will remain on Boxing Day. The
justification is based on film going statistics that show Boxing Day is the
biggest movie going day or all year in Australia and they are going for the
first day box office takings record!
What the hell is that? [here]
Follow this link to see a shot from the trailer
were Gollum can be heard saying “My Prescioussssss”. This is an enhanced
capture that shows what looks like a wheel from an old ship in the middle,
top. And also a bunch of chains in the bottom left hand corner. [here]

First LOTR poster reported!
This may seem inconsequential however the very
first report of the first LOTR poster has come in. Thanks to Graham who
tells us that the LOTR poster is on display in the foyer of Eldorado 8
Cinema complex in Indooroopilly, Brisbane Queensland. If you want the
poster and don’t want to buy it over the internet, why not phone the cinema
and put a bid on it. Cinemas sell off their posters and banners after the
films have left the cinema!
FOTR trailer 5 stars! [here]
News posted at TORN leads you to rottentomatoes.com where the
trailer reviews are out. Guess what FOTR is the only one to receive the
full 5 stars! Check it out! [here]
Media Hype! Will this be
bigger than Star Wars?
Rumours are everywhere. The Lord of the
Rings has been seen on Australian and New Zealand television on shows
such as Channel 10 News, ET, Blockbuster Entertainment, Channel [v],
Showtime just to name a few. So why is this important? Because we are still
six months away from the first release. Countless Magazine articles,
Internet articles, Television spots all around the globe, two trailers and
an internet preview! So much material and still there is no film yet! Empire
Magazine in January this year suggested the films would be the biggest
ever, bigger than Stat Wars!
Have an opinion on this? Email me at mailto:ptwomey@bne.catholic.edu.au
Seen it, Can’t believe it,
This movie will rock!
I finally got around to checking out Pearl
Harbour and of course seeing the FOTR tailer on the big screen. Simply put
“WoW”. There is a big difference between seeing it on your computer screen
and on the BIG screen! The cinema was packed and the end of the trailer
gave me a buzz as I heard the cinema erupt in discussion. I heard a guy
sitting next to me say “A trilogy already, when did this happen?” Get with
the program all of you and read the book, watch the trailers and hold your
breath in anticipation!
NZ open confirmed! Will Aus
follow?
Over at TORN
they have posted confirmation of the NZ open on the 19th but
this is something to think about. If it opens on the 19th in NZ
then they will be the first country, the first people besides the premier
to see the Film. I say give Australia some of that action. I will keep a
look out for any news on the Aussie open date.
Some great Images over at
Elostirion.com
~SPOILERS~
The surge of exclusive
images keeps rolling into Elostirion.com
and there is nothing wrong with that. Check out this link, which is the

Fellowship release date? When the hell is it
coming! – and a THIRD trailer???
Over at SCOOP
they are reporting that the NZ release date is now Dec 19th like
the rest of the world. Except us? No confirmation yet but I will keep an
eye out. At this stage the film will be out here on Boxing Day. [here]
Also head on over to TORN to check out a report from a
trusted source on a THIRD trailer in September. [here]
Redbank gets the new Trailer!
The distributors made a mistake and never sent
the second trailer to many smaller cinemas throughout Australia.
Redbank sends word it has now arrived and
showing on Pearl Harbour in cinemas 1 and 2. A new hint for trailer
scouts – make sure you ask for fellowship of the Rings trailer and
not Lord of the Rings!!! The guys at most cinemas do not know they
are the same film.
“My two Cents” [here]
Over at TORN

Trailer in Oz!
This is one crazy country and it is all over
the shop. Some cinemas are showing the first trailer and some are showing
the second, some are not showing any at all.
Greg from Hoyts sends us this apology for not
showing the second trailer!
My humble apologies to you and the other fans who saw the
first trailer. I
can assure you that I did send strict instructions to all
our projection
staff to ensure that the 2nd trailer was used (and that the
old trailers
were taken off completely), but it seems that a quite a few
of them have
left the old ones up.
Best regards,
Greg
